ANP President Aimal Wali Khan Criticizes Political Elites Over Hypocrisy and Governance Issues

PESHAWAR:Aimal Wali Khan**, the central president of the **Awami National Party (ANP)**, has sharply criticized the political elite in Pakistan, claiming that the current political culture is more about personal service and power than the democratic principle of respecting voters. Speaking on a private TV channel’s program, Khan expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of the country’s democracy.
He remarked, “It is the unfortunate reality of democratic people that the race among the bigwigs is now about who can serve more, who can do more for the elite, and who will clean more shoes. This is where our politics seems to be heading.” Khan further emphasized that the culture of political service was a façade, and that such gestures of ‘service’ were being used to create false narratives of goodwill.
Khan continued, “The current government may last another ten years, and what will it have accomplished? The best of servants are already in power, and what more do they need? They get the blame and the praise alike. The people who are supposed to represent the democratic values of the country have been reduced to doing these trivial tasks. We, as democratic people and as minorities in Pakistan, are being subjected to the worst kind of political spectacle.”
He also addressed the **27th Amendment** issue, questioning whether the ongoing political maneuvers were truly in service of democracy. “Is this what democracy looks like? Are these rumors and behind-the-scenes deals serving the democracy, or are they simply undermining the very values of voter dignity?” Aimal Wali Khan further criticized the hypocrisy of the ruling elite, saying, “Let them stay in power for 15 years, but when they eventually leave, then what will they say when they claim to respect votes? How will they justify their actions?”
Khan’s statement underscores the growing disillusionment with the political landscape in Pakistan, where the quest for power seems to have overshadowed the core values of democracy, justice, and the respect for the people’s vote. His comments reflect the sentiments of many who feel that the political elite’s focus on power has led to a disconnect from the needs and aspirations of the general public.
