Shaheen Afridi Says Fast Bowlers Need Rest to Perform at Their Best

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) – Pakistan team captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has said that fast bowlers need proper rest to maintain their performance and fitness, adding that continuous workload can affect their bodies.

Speaking at a press conference in Rawalpindi ahead of the ODI series against Australia, Shaheen Shah Afridi responded humorously to a journalist by saying he would bowl at “200 speed” for them.

The Pakistani pacer said that all fast bowlers are focused on improving their pace, but emphasized that “when a machine keeps running, it also breaks down,” highlighting the importance of rest for fast bowlers.

He added that every player needs to improve their game and said head coach Mike Hesson has likely discussed performance expectations with the squad. Shaheen noted that every player is important for the team, while selectors are trying to provide opportunities to young talent.

Praising former captain Babar Azam, Shaheen said the star batter performed well in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and expressed hope that he would continue his strong form against Australia.

“Babar Azam is the backbone of Pakistan’s ODI cricket,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Australian captain Josh Inglis said that Pakistan’s hospitality has always been excellent, which is why the Australian team enjoys touring the country. He added that the upcoming series against Pakistan is expected to be highly competitive.

The first One-Day International between Pakistan and Australia will be played in Rawalpindi tomorrow, while the ODI series trophy was also officially unveiled.
