Prime Minister Directs Experts to Adopt a New Model for Improving Government Performance

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed that experts be hired for every sector to enhance the performance of ministries. During a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Power presented a detailed briefing on governance improvements and reforms through an expert-driven model.
In his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the outdated system under which the country has been governed for seven decades is not conducive to Pakistan’s development. He stated that without aligning the old system with modern requirements, economic progress and prosperity cannot be achieved.
He further highlighted that Pakistan is rich in resources, with its young workforce being the nation’s most valuable asset. He praised the efforts of talented Pakistanis around the world who are making significant contributions to the country’s global reputation.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the government’s top priority is to transform the outdated system into a modern digital and effective governance model. He lauded the tireless efforts of Owais Leghari and his team for their work in the Ministry of Power, noting the reforms, reduction in losses, and savings of billions of rupees for the national treasury as exemplary for other ministries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of engaging internationally renowned experts for the successful transformation of the system. He noted that specialists and consultants in the sector would help implement reforms that are aligned with contemporary needs, bringing new ideas and governance methods into practice.
The Prime Minister also directed the formation of a committee to recruit top talent, modernize ministries, and implement governance improvements. The committee will consider the reforms in the Ministry of Power as a model for restructuring other ministries and departments.
The meeting also received updates that, under the National Electricity Plan, 134 strategic directives had been implemented within the ministry. Experts provided detailed profiles and insights into the current workings of the ministry under the newly adopted system.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers Dr. Musaddiq Malik, Ahad Khan Cheema, Sardar Owais Khan Leghari, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Ali Pervez Malik, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kiani, Chief Coordinator Masharaf Zaidi, and other senior officials.
