Baldia Town Case Verdict a Victory for My Ideology, Says Mustafa Kamal

Karachi: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Mustafa Kamal has said that the verdict in the Baldia Town factory fire case represents a victory for his political ideology.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Kamal stated that three years after the incident, MQM and its workers were initially held responsible, adding that he had maintained from day one that the truth would eventually come out.

He said the case verdict proved his stance correct and paid tribute to the families of the victims, noting that they had accepted the court’s decision that the fire was the result of criminal negligence by factory owners.

Mustafa Kamal further remarked that when his group realized that MQM founder could not serve the interests of the community, they decided to part ways, clarifying that this was not rebellion but a political separation. “We did not commit treason; the real MQM is what exists here,” he said.

He also criticized internal party leadership, questioning accountability and claiming that no action was taken against certain members despite allegations being aired on television. He expressed strong dissatisfaction over party conduct, stating that when the nation was suffering, leadership remained inactive.

Kamal added that a leader without moral character cannot effectively represent the people’s cause, and criticized the selection and extension of party leadership roles, saying the structure would have collapsed had they known about the leadership style in advance.
