Invasion of Professional Beggars in Quetta Alarms Citizens; Authorities Remain Silent

Quetta – The influx of professional beggars from other provinces into Balochistan’s capital, Quetta, has disrupted daily life and caused distress among residents. Markets, mosques, intersections, and traffic signals are now overrun with beggars who continuously harass the public.
A particularly troubling aspect is the exploitation of young children, who are forced to beg under the scorching sun. This practice not only violates children’s rights but also undermines humanitarian values. Locals have reported that many of these beggars fake disabilities and emotional distress to extort money, and in some cases, have even been found involved in petty crimes such as theft and impersonation.
Despite the growing public outcry, the district administration and police have remained passive observers. Citizens have strongly appealed to Balochistan Chief Minister, the Commissioner of Quetta, and the Deputy Commissioner to take immediate action against professional beggars and end the exploitation of minors.
Residents are demanding a city-wide crackdown to restore Quetta’s environment as clean, safe, and dignified for all.
