Trump Calls Protesters ‘Animals’ as California Governor Condemns Federal Crackdown in Los Angeles

Los Angeles – Protests in Los Angeles have intensified following recent immigration and security raids by federal agents, prompting Mayor Karen Bass to impose a nighttime curfew in central areas of the city. Clashes between demonstrators and police have led to vehicles being torched, dozens of stores looted, and over 300 arrests.
In a controversial speech to a military gathering, former President Donald Trump labeled the protesters as “animals” and accused them of operating under a foreign agenda. He vowed to “liberate” Los Angeles and emphasized the deployment of thousands of National Guard troops and hundreds of Marines to restore order.
“These are people waving foreign flags on our streets and chanting against the country — they must be silenced,” Trump declared, while assuring that military personnel will only protect federal property, with arrests being handled by local law enforcement.
California Pushback: ‘Unconstitutional Federal Overreach’
California Governor Gavin Newsom fiercely opposed Trump’s actions, denouncing them as unconstitutional and an abuse of federal power. “Interference in our state’s affairs is unacceptable,” he said in a press briefing. “This is authoritarian behavior. We will challenge it in court.”
The mayor’s curfew, effective from 8 PM to 6 AM, currently applies to a one-mile radius in downtown Los Angeles.
The unrest began after immigration officials conducted sudden raids in local neighborhoods, detaining numerous undocumented immigrants. Human rights groups have condemned the raids as inhumane and unlawful, sparking widespread outrage among immigrant communities.
Political Overtones
Analysts believe Trump’s aggressive stance is tied to his election campaign strategy, presenting himself as a guardian of law and order. Critics, however, argue that his rhetoric and actions represent a direct assault on civil liberties and community trust.
With tensions rising, the situation remains volatile as legal battles and political divisions further complicate the path to resolution.
