Severe Heatwave Warning Issued in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Peshawar: A severe heatwave is expected to grip most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, prompting the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to issue an official warning.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, temperatures are expected to gradually rise during the daytime starting Monday, with hot and dusty winds likely to blow in some areas during the afternoon and night.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted a temperature increase of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius during the day. In light of the expected conditions, the PDMA has issued directives to all district administrations and relevant departments to prepare accordingly.
Director General of PDMA warned that the dry and intense weather could not only lead to heatstroke but also place pressure on water resources. Citizens are urged to take extra precautions when going out in the sun, particularly between 10 AM and 5 PM. Elderly individuals and children have been advised to avoid direct sunlight during these hours.
Farmers have been instructed to ensure adequate water supply for their crops. The Health Department has been directed to keep heatstroke centers operational, and paramedical staff and rescue teams have been placed on high alert.
Additionally, guidelines have been issued for the protection of livestock and pets. Citizens are also advised to check their vehicle’s engine coolant and tire pressure before traveling.
PDMA’s Emergency Operations Center is fully functional, and the public is encouraged to report any emergencies by calling the helpline at 1700.
