PSL vs IPL: Prize Money Disparity Leaves Fans Astonished

Lahore: The prize money disparity between the world’s richest cricket league, the Indian Premier League (IPL), and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has taken the spotlight, with fans left astonished by the vast difference in rewards for the winning teams.
According to reports, the Indian Premier League (IPL) will reward the champion team with a whopping ₹63.79 crore (approximately $2.32 million). In contrast, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will give its champion team a much smaller reward of $500,000 (approximately ₹14.5 crore).
The difference in prize money for just the champion teams of both leagues amounts to over ₹49 crore. Meanwhile, the runner-up in IPL will receive $1.5 million (around ₹41.24 crore), while the PSL runner-up will receive a modest $200,000 (approximately ₹5.61 crore).
Additionally, the IPL has substantial prize money set aside for teams finishing in third and fourth place. The third-place team will receive approximately $810,800 (₹22.29 crore), while the fourth-place team will earn around $752,894 (₹20.7 crore). On the other hand, the PSL does not allocate any prize money for teams finishing in third or fourth place.
This stark contrast in financial rewards has sparked a conversation about the economic power of the two leagues and raised questions about the long-term growth and financial sustainability of the PSL.
