Tamim Iqbal Criticises Past BCB Handling of T20 World Cup Issue

DHAKA: Head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (Bangladesh Cricket Board) ad hoc committee, Tamim Iqbal, has said that the previous board’s handling of the T20 World Cup-related issue was not appropriate.

In an interview with Indian media, Tamim Iqbal stated that he had raised concerns early when the issue emerged, but the former BCB administration did not manage the situation properly.

He said that the International Cricket Council (International Cricket Council) had shown flexibility and that there was still room for a negotiated solution, which, according to him, should have been pursued instead of allowing the matter to escalate.

Tamim added that Bangladesh missed out on opportunities for dialogue and that some players from that World Cup squad may not get another chance to participate in the tournament.

He also commented on cricket relations with India, saying there are no current issues between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the Board of Control for Cricket in India, and that security concerns have never been a major issue when the Indian team tours Bangladesh.

Referring to bilateral cricket, he said matches between Bangladesh and India are highly popular and well-attended, and future series are expected to be competitive and successful.

When asked about Pakistan’s reported solidarity-related boycott of the World Cup, Tamim Iqbal declined to comment, stating that he was not part of those decisions. He added that, regardless of the circumstances, Bangladesh ultimately lost an important opportunity by not participating.
