Government May Not Like It, But Imran Khan Is a Former Prime Minister: Sharmila Faruqui

LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharmila Faruqui has said that regardless of whether the government likes it, PTI founder Imran Khan remains a former prime minister of Pakistan.
Speaking on ARY News, Faruqui said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had remarked that the government’s own team would be enough to bring about its downfall and that it did not need anyone else’s help.
She said that instead of discussing issues such as electricity prices, petrol prices and poverty, political attention was currently focused on the controversy surrounding Imran Khan’s hospital treatment.
“What is the government worried or afraid of? The government itself can explain that,” Faruqui said.
She reiterated Bilawal Bhutto’s view that the government’s own team was creating problems for it.
Meanwhile, opposition parties also held a meeting to discuss the political situation in the country.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman questioned how long the opposition could remain silent and continue to act out of political expediency.
He said the narrative being presented by the government was incorrect and that the deteriorating situation was affecting the national economy.
Fazlur Rehman also questioned discussions about the creation of new provinces, saying that the country was already facing serious challenges.
“The country is on fire, and they are talking about dividing the house,” he said.
He said the opposition had decided to convey the facts to the nation and adopt a joint strategy in Parliament.
Fazlur Rehman also claimed that the government had no effective writ in two provinces and was merely offering assurances, while no clear government policy or major achievement was visible.
