Armed Group Activities and Attacks on Police Stations in Southern Pashtunkhwa Condemned: PKMAP

QUETTA: The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) has strongly condemned the open activities of armed groups and attacks on police stations in southern Pashtunkhwa, calling for indiscriminate action against all armed and lawless elements.

In a press release issued by the party’s provincial secretariat, PKMAP criticised the provincial government over the deteriorating law-and-order situation and said incidents involving armed groups in Sararan of Pishin district, Qila Abdullah, Chaman, Ziarat, Sanjavi, Harnai and Quetta could not be ignored.

The party said such incidents had raised serious questions about the law-and-order situation and created fear among the public, with citizens increasingly feeling unsafe even inside their own homes.

PKMAP said attacks and arson targeting police stations were highly condemnable. It noted that the Levies Force had initially been merged into the police force, but both Levies and police personnel were now being targeted in recurring incidents, resulting in the deaths of security personnel and innocent civilians.

The party said a wave of insecurity was currently affecting districts across Balochistan, particularly southern Pashtunkhwa. It described the open display of weapons, armed activities, attacks on government property and police stations as an extremely dangerous situation for the writ of the state and the rule of law.

According to the statement, such incidents also created the impression of serious negligence by the government and law-enforcement institutions in performing their duties effectively. The party termed alleged government patronage of proxies, armed groups and elements violating the law unfortunate and condemnable.

PKMAP reiterated its longstanding demand that the distinction between “good” and “bad” terrorists be ended. It called for effective, indiscriminate and lawful action against armed groups and individuals taking the law into their own hands.

The party also demanded an immediate end to the open display of weapons and armed activities and called for effective security arrangements in sensitive areas so that citizens could carry out their daily activities without fear.

The statement warned that attacks on police stations could contribute to the spread of lawlessness, social disorder and insecurity. It said the spread of fear into people’s homes was a matter of grave concern for any responsible state and could push society toward civil conflict.

PKMAP urged the government, administration and security institutions to provide immediate and practical protection to citizens, eliminate armed groups, restore the writ of the state and ensure the rule of law.

The party said continued incidents of violence and lawlessness could push society toward further disorder and possible civil conflict, with potentially dangerous consequences.

It stressed that the fundamental responsibility of the state was to protect its citizens and ensure the safety of their lives, property and dignity.

The party called on the government to move beyond statements and assurances and demonstrate through practical measures that there would be no compromise on the protection of citizens and the restoration of peace and security.
