Balochistan’s People Are Key to Pakistan’s Economic Development: Maulana Abdul Wasay

QUETTA/KARACHI: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Balochistan chief and Senator Maulana Abdul Wasay has said that the people of Balochistan are a key pillar of Pakistan’s economic and commercial development and should not be viewed as a threat.

Speaking to media representatives in Karachi, Maulana Abdul Wasay said the people of Balochistan believed in love, brotherhood and mutual harmony and were peace-loving and religious-minded.

He said Karachi had always welcomed people from different ethnic backgrounds and had truly proved itself to be a “mini Pakistan.” Traders, labourers and businesspeople from different parts of the country had played an important role in the city’s economic development and prosperity, he added.

The senator said no community should be unnecessarily harassed or subjected to difficulties. He noted that JUI had played its role in addressing the issues faced by hotel owners and traders from Balochistan in Karachi and had also approached relevant officials of the Sindh government.

Maulana Abdul Wasay said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had assured them that the problems of hotel owners and traders would be resolved. He expressed hope that the provincial government would take practical steps to settle the matter amicably.

He said JUI believed in resolving issues through the law, Constitution, dialogue and mutual respect, adding that no issue should be allowed to turn into ethnic or political tension.

According to the senator, Pashtun traders and hotel owners from Balochistan were making a positive contribution to Karachi’s economy, and protecting their legitimate business rights, dignity and honour was the responsibility of the government and all relevant institutions.

Maulana Abdul Wasay said JUI would continue to stand with the oppressed and raise its voice for the resolution of legitimate grievances.

He expressed hope that a permanent and workable solution would be found so that the business community could continue its activities with confidence and an atmosphere of love, brotherhood and harmony in Karachi could be further strengthened.
