Zamarak Achakzai Condemns Alleged Police Violence Against Pashtun Traders in Karachi
QUETTA: Awami National Party (ANP) Parliamentary Leader Engineer Zamarak Khan Achakzai has strongly condemned alleged police violence, arrests and damage to the property of Pashtun businesspeople in Karachi, calling on the Sindh government to take immediate notice of the incident.
In a statement, Achakzai said similar incidents involving Pashtuns had occurred in Karachi in the past, against which the Awami National Party had consistently raised its voice. He vowed that the party would continue to stand by the Pashtun community and would not leave them alone.
He described reports of alleged police violence against Pashtun traders and damage to their property as highly concerning. He said unlawful treatment of any citizen was unacceptable and such incidents could create anxiety and insecurity among the public.
Achakzai demanded that the Sindh government immediately investigate the incident, conduct a transparent inquiry into the alleged violence and arrests, and take action according to law if any police personnel were found involved.
He said Pashtuns were playing an important role in Pakistan’s economy and business activities, adding that the state and relevant governments were responsible for protecting their lives, property and businesses.
The ANP parliamentary leader said his party would continue to raise its voice through all constitutional and democratic forums for the protection of Pashtun rights and against any injustice faced by the community.
