Protest Over Power Cut in Quetta Leads to Firing Incident, 5 Injured

Quetta, Pakistan:A protest by shopkeepers in Quetta’s Satellite Town escalated into violence when two gunmen opened fire on the crowd after being denied a passage during the demonstration. The incident left five individuals wounded and led to a chaotic scene in the area.

According to police reports, the unrest began when the electricity was cut off by the K-Electric (KE) staff in the Chandi Chowk area of Satellite Town. In response, shopkeepers blocked the road, protesting the power outage. As the protest continued, two individuals in a vehicle requested passage through the blocked road. However, when protesters refused to give way, the vehicle occupants opened fire on the crowd, injuring five shopkeepers.

The incident caused panic in the area, with bystanders fleeing in fear. The assailants abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot, while an enraged crowd set the car on fire.

Police arrived promptly at the scene, securing the area and transporting the injured to a nearby hospital. Firefighters also responded to control the blaze. Law enforcement officials have arrested 11 individuals involved in the road blockade and the vehicle burning, and a case has been filed against them.

Authorities are now investigating the incident, including the actions of the gunmen and the motive behind the shooting. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, highlighting ongoing concerns over public safety and law enforcement effectiveness in the region.
