Security Put on High Alert Across Balochistan as Mobile and Internet Services Suspended in Several Areas
QUETTA: Security has been placed on high alert across Quetta and several districts of Balochistan amid security concerns, while mobile phone, mobile data and internet services have reportedly been suspended in multiple areas.
According to sources, Frontier Corps (FC) and police personnel have intensified checking and established checkpoints at various locations. Additional security personnel have been deployed in Quetta, where suspicious individuals and vehicles are being checked, while surveillance has been increased along major highways, sensitive locations and entry and exit points.
Reports indicate that mobile phone services have been suspended across Awaran Muhammad district, causing difficulties for residents in maintaining communication. In Harnai city and rural areas, Ufone mobile signals have reportedly been unavailable, while data and internet services have also remained affected for around three weeks.
Mobile phone signals have also reportedly been suspended across Kohlu, affecting routine communication, business activities and other essential services. Residents have expressed concern over the disruption.
In Loralai, mobile signals and data services have reportedly been suspended, prompting residents to demand restoration of the services. Similar reports of mobile service suspension have also emerged from Dera Bugti.
Meanwhile, mobile data services have reportedly been disrupted or suspended in Mastung, Kalat, Surab, Khuzdar, Turbat, Panjgur, Nushki and Gwadar, among other areas of Balochistan.
The service disruptions have created difficulties for residents in accessing the internet, online services and maintaining communication with others. Citizens have also reported disruptions to business, educational and other online activities.
Sources said law enforcement agencies had increased patrolling and surveillance in several districts in view of the prevailing security situation. FC and police personnel are conducting vehicle and identity checks at checkpoints, while security arrangements have been tightened around sensitive areas.
Residents have called on the authorities to provide clear information about the reasons for the security measures and service suspensions. They have also urged the authorities to restore mobile and internet services as soon as the security situation returns to normal.
According to sources, the security situation in various districts of Balochistan is being reviewed, with an increased presence of law enforcement personnel at sensitive locations and along major highways.
Official details regarding the reasons for the suspension of mobile and data services, as well as the timeline for their restoration, are yet to be announced.
