Iran’s President Says US Forced Into Talks With Tehran, Calling It a Diplomatic Victory

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said the United States has been forced to pursue negotiations and an understanding with Tehran, describing the development as a success for Iranian diplomacy and saying the current moment could provide an opportunity to reach an agreement.

Speaking at a press conference with media representatives in Tehran, Pezeshkian said Washington had been obligated to implement the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as well as points jointly prepared by Iran and Oman, but failed to do so, forcing Tehran to respond.

He said dealing with the current situation requires a specialized team and that Iran’s team continues to work on the crisis. Pezeshkian expressed hope that Iran would move forward while maintaining its dignity, determination and national pride.

The Iranian president also described the United States as a “criminal” and “colonial” power, stressing that there had been no change in Tehran’s policy toward Washington.

Pezeshkian warned the Iranian people that the alliance between the United States and Israel had failed to force Tehran to surrender through war. He said they were now seeking to achieve their objectives by exploiting divisions and provoking disputes within Iranian society.

He urged the Iranian public to remain vigilant against such efforts, stressing that the country needs unity at this critical stage.

“We need to stand together to protect our security and defensive capabilities,” the Iranian president said.
