JD Vance Says Trump Seeks Comprehensive Iran Deal as Talks Continue

US Vice President JD Vance has said that negotiations with Iran are ongoing, emphasizing that Donald Trump is aiming for a comprehensive agreement rather than a limited deal.

Speaking at an event at the University of Georgia, Vance noted that such high-level talks between the United States and Iran have not taken place in 49 years. He added that decades of mistrust cannot be resolved overnight but stressed that Iranian officials understood he was sent in good faith by President Trump.

Vance said progress has been made in discussions, including during engagements in Pakistan, but acknowledged that a final, wide-ranging deal has yet to be reached. He reiterated that the US seeks an agreement ensuring Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons and refrains from what he described as state-sponsored terrorism.

He further stated that Trump wants a deal that benefits not only the United States but the global community, enabling Iran to integrate into the global economy. According to Vance, if Iran normalizes its conduct, Washington would be prepared to treat it as a normal economic partner.

The vice president added that he feels positive about the current stage of negotiations and confirmed that the ceasefire remains in place.
