Heavy Rain Expected in Karachi from August 1 Evening, Says Meteorological Department

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is likely to begin in Karachi on the evening or night of August 1 and continue through August 2.

According to the Met Office, an active monsoon system is affecting various parts of the country. After bringing rainfall to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the weather system is now moving toward Sindh, increasing the likelihood of widespread rain in Karachi and several other districts.

In addition to Karachi, heavy rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms is expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sujawal, Thatta, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad, Matiari, Jamshoro, Nawabshah, Naushahro Feroze, and Dadu.

The Meteorological Department has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, exercise caution in low-lying areas, and stay away from electricity poles and damaged power lines.

Meanwhile, intermittent monsoon rains are expected to continue across the upper, central, and southern districts of Punjab until August 5. The PMD has also warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, Faisalabad, and the Pothohar region.

The department further forecast rainfall and strong winds in several parts of Balochistan, including Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Nasirabad, Sibi, Loralai, and Khuzdar, while rain is also expected in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The PMD warned that heavy rainfall could trigger landslides in Murree, the Galiyat, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and other mountainous areas, while flash flooding in seasonal streams is also possible. Citizens and tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable locations during the forecast period.
