Rain Forecast for Karachi and Southern, Central Pakistan; Urban Flooding Warning Issued

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast further monsoon rains across southern and central parts of the country, including Karachi, and warned of the possibility of urban flooding in low-lying areas.

According to a weather alert issued by the PMD, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected to continue until Monday in Sindh, Punjab, and other parts of the country.

Rain is forecast in Karachi and several cities of Sindh from July 24 to July 28. Areas likely to receive rainfall include Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, Khairpur, and their surrounding regions.

In Punjab, heavy rainfall is expected between July 24 and July 26 in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and other central districts.

The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy downpours may trigger urban flooding in major cities, while strong winds, dust storms, and lightning could damage vulnerable structures, including weak buildings and temporary installations.

The PMD has advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions. Farmers have been urged to plan their agricultural activities in accordance with the weather forecast, while livestock owners have been asked to take appropriate precautionary measures to protect their animals.

Relevant government departments and disaster management authorities have also been directed to remain on high alert and take preemptive measures to minimize the impact of the anticipated weather conditions.
