Woman Dies During Kidney Stone Surgery in Karachi Hospital; Family Alleges Medical Negligence

Karachi: A woman died during treatment at a private hospital in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, prompting her relatives to vandalize hospital property and accuse doctors and staff of medical negligence.
According to reports, the deceased, identified as Jameela Saleem, was undergoing surgery for kidney stones when her condition deteriorated, leading to her death. Following the incident, tensions escalated at the hospital as family members staged a protest and damaged hospital property.
Police personnel rushed to the hospital after receiving reports of the disturbance and brought the situation under control. Authorities said an investigation is underway and legal action will be taken against those found responsible.
Speaking to the media, the victim’s son, Ammar Saleem, said his mother was brought to the hospital the previous afternoon for a kidney stone operation and had walked into the facility on her own.
He alleged that doctors displayed gross negligence and carelessness during the procedure, which resulted in his mother’s death. Ammar claimed that hospital staff initially concealed the facts surrounding the incident and later admitted that negligence had occurred.
He further alleged that the doctors and staff responsible for the incident were allowed to leave the hospital. Following the woman’s death, all hospital activities were suspended, and patients and attendants were asked to leave the premises.
The victim’s family has demanded the immediate arrest of the doctors involved and the registration of a criminal case against them.
Police officials stated that the matter is being thoroughly investigated and that action will be taken in accordance with the law once the inquiry is completed.
