PPP Leader Mir Shafiq ur Rehman Mengal Alleges Police Negligence in Khuzdar Attack, Demands Action Against Officers

Khuzdar: Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and tribal figure Mir Shafiq ur Rehman Mengal has alleged that militants used the Khuzdar Police Lines during an attack on his residence and demanded action against senior police officers, warning that the provincial government would also bear responsibility if no investigation is carried out.

Addressing a press conference at his residence in Wadh Baddri alongside party officials and tribal elders, Mengal said that on July 8, a group of 12 armed militants attacked his home, violating the sanctity of private residences and local traditions.

He claimed that he and his supporters resisted the assault, resulting in an hours-long gun battle in which, according to him, 17 of his associates were killed. He also alleged that several militants were killed during the exchange of fire and said video footage of the incident was available.

Mengal alleged that some of the attackers entered the nearby Police Lines, located about 100 to 150 meters from his residence, and used the building and its rooftop as firing positions during the attack. He claimed the incident reflected serious failures by local police leadership.

He called for legal action against the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), and other officers responsible for policing in Khuzdar, alleging negligence and complicity. He said CCTV footage was available that, according to him, showed militants using the Police Lines during the attack.

Mengal also criticized the provincial Home Department’s handling of the incident while thanking Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti for remaining in contact with him during the crisis. He also expressed gratitude to President Asif Ali Zardari for checking on his well-being following the attack.

During the press conference, Mengal reaffirmed his support for Pakistan and the PPP, condemned militant violence, and accused nationalist groups of policies that, in his view, had contributed to the province’s security challenges.

The allegations made by Mir Shafiq ur Rehman Mengal have not been independently verified. No response from the Balochistan Police or the provincial Home Department was included in the material provided.
