Shahid Afridi Pays Emotional Tribute to Late Former Afghanistan Cricketer Shapoor Zadran

Lahore: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran, paying an emotional tribute to the cricketer following his death after a prolonged illness.

Shapoor Zadran passed away at the age of 38 at a hospital in New Delhi, where he had been receiving treatment for cancer.

In a message shared on social media, Afridi wrote, “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.” Addressing the late cricketer, he added, “Dear Shapoor, you will always remain in our hearts. May Allah shower His mercy upon you and grant you the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous.”

Afridi further wrote that while death is inevitable for every human being, honor and dignity endure, emphasizing that a person’s values and legacy continue to live on even after death.

Shapoor Zadran represented Afghanistan in 44 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 36 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He is best remembered for scoring the winning runs in Afghanistan’s historic first-ever ICC Cricket World Cup victory against Scotland during the 2015 World Cup, a milestone that remains one of the most memorable moments in Afghan cricket history.

Tributes have continued to pour in from members of the cricket fraternity, remembering Zadran for his contributions to Afghanistan’s rise in international cricket and his role in several landmark victories.
