PM Shehbaz Sharif Discusses Regional Tensions with Iranian President and Qatar’s Emir

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held separate telephone conversations with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressing deep concern over the recent escalation of tensions in the region and emphasizing the need for restraint and dialogue.
According to an official statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed the urgent need to restore regional peace and stability and urged Iran and all relevant parties to exercise maximum restraint. He called on all sides to avoid actions that could undermine progress made toward peace.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of honoring the commitments made under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, describing it as a sustainable framework for promoting mutual understanding, cooperation, and regional stability.
Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region and assured President Pezeshkian of Pakistan’s continued constructive role in promoting dialogue and cooperation.
President Pezeshkian thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s Field Marshal for attending the funeral prayers of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and appreciated Pakistan’s support and constructive role in promoting regional peace. Both leaders also reviewed progress on decisions reached during previous discussions in Islamabad and agreed to accelerate their implementation to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his best wishes to Ayatollah Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.
In a separate call with Qatar’s Emir, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with Qatar in light of the recent regional developments. He thanked Qatar for its support of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and its role in peace efforts during the Burgenstock talks, while emphasizing that all parties should exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further destabilize the region.
