Punjab Launches Expanded ‘Apna Ghar Apni Chhat’ Scheme with Interest-Free Loans of Up to Rs1 Million

Islamabad: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the expansion of the “Apna Ghar Apni Chhat” housing programme, introducing new categories that will allow eligible families to access interest-free loans of up to Rs1 million for home improvements and construction.

According to the announcement, homeowners with weak roofs or structurally damaged walls are eligible to apply under the new scheme. Beneficiaries can obtain loans of up to Rs1 million, repayable over 7, 8, or 9 years, to construct an additional floor on their homes.

The expanded programme also includes a new category under which deserving families will receive Rs500,000 to repair and reinforce unsafe or deteriorating homes in an effort to prevent accidents caused by weak structures.

Officials said that under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” programme, interest-free loans have been approved for more than 180,000 families, with over 170,000 families already receiving financial assistance. A total of Rs217.8 billion has been allocated for the initiative.

The government further stated that more than 134,000 houses have been completed across Punjab under the programme, while over 27,500 homes are currently under construction. Authorities have received more than 1.278 million applications for the housing scheme.
