Power Division Denies Changes to Protected Electricity Consumers Policy

Islamabad: The Power Division has strongly denied reports circulating on social media and other platforms claiming that the government’s policy for protected electricity consumers has been changed.

In an official statement, the Power Division clarified that there has been no change to the policy governing protected consumers. It reiterated that to qualify for the protected consumer category, a household must have recorded electricity consumption of 200 units or less for six consecutive months. Consumers meeting this requirement will continue to receive the benefits available under the existing policy.

Meanwhile, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notification increasing electricity tariffs by Rs0.33 per unit under the May 2026 monthly fuel price adjustment. The increase will apply to all relevant electricity consumers, including K-Electric customers, and the additional charges will be reflected in electricity bills issued during July 2026.
