Deepfake Technology Raises Blackmail Concerns
Moreover, police officials have highlighted the risk posed by cybercriminals who create fake or deepfake photographs and videos to blackmail families. Such individuals may threaten to make manipulated or private content public to intimidate victims and cause them severe psychological distress.

Officials noted that the wedding season begins across the country with the arrival of winter, a period when the risks associated with manipulated images, videos, and digital blackmail require particular attention.

The police have urged families to protect their personal photographs and videos and stay mindful of digital security risks during wedding photography and video shoots.

The advisory emphasises safeguarding private content in the digital age to reduce the risk of misuse by cybercriminals and blackmailers.
