Russia Partially Lifts Ban on Pakistani Potato Imports, Clears 101 Exporters
Moscow: Russia has partially lifted its ban on potato imports from Pakistan, allowing 101 Pakistani exporters to resume shipments to the Russian market.
According to Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor), the decision was made after reviewing additional information provided by Pakistani authorities regarding phytosanitary measures and export control procedures. The revised authorization came into effect on July 7, 2026.
Russian officials said Pakistan submitted detailed information on potato production, inspection, quarantine protocols, and export monitoring. Following a technical assessment of these measures, the authorities decided to ease the import restrictions.
Under the new decision, 101 Pakistani exporters have been approved to export potatoes to Russia. However, restrictions remain in place on two exporters, as Russian authorities said their previous shipments were found to have violated quarantine regulations.
Rosselkhoznadzor emphasized that all imported agricultural products will continue to be subject to Russia’s quarantine and phytosanitary requirements, and every shipment will be inspected in accordance with Russian law.
Russia imposed restrictions on certain potato imports from Pakistan in 2025 after identifying phytosanitary concerns in some consignments. The latest decision restores access for most Pakistani potato exporters and is being viewed as a significant development in agricultural trade relations between the two countries.
