Trump Administration Sends Questionnaire to NATO Allies to Assess Policy Support

WASHINGTON:The Trump administration has sent a questionnaire to NATO allies to assess their loyalty to and support for U.S. policies, according to a Bloomberg report.
The questionnaire reportedly asks NATO members whether they impose any restrictions on the United States’ use of their military bases, whether they spend money on U.S. defense contractors, and what their position is on “Made in Europe” policies.
Some U.S. allies have described the move as an attempt to impose ideological alignment in exchange for American security guarantees.
The questionnaire comes as the United States conducts a six-month review of its military presence in Europe, a process expected to be completed in December.
It also examines the defense budgets of NATO members and reportedly asks them to provide receipts for defense equipment purchased from American companies.
Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte described the U.S. review of its military presence in Europe as a positive development. He said such reviews were bringing NATO members closer together and should be conducted regularly.
