Kriti Sanon Opens Up About Gender Bias in Bollywood, Says Women Face Double Standards

Mumbai:Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon has spoken candidly about gender discrimination in the film industry, revealing that women are often judged by different standards than their male counterparts.
In a recent interview with a YouTube channel, Sanon reflected on her experiences in Bollywood, saying that despite having worked in modeling, engineering college, and the entertainment industry, Bollywood has been the most challenging environment she has encountered.
Looking back on the early days of her career, the actress said opportunities for women were far more limited than they are today. She explained that many films at the time revolved around male protagonists, while female characters were often written merely as romantic interests.
Sanon acknowledged that the industry has gradually improved, with stronger and more meaningful roles now being written for women. However, she emphasized that gender-based discrimination still exists in various forms.
She also highlighted the different standards applied to male and female actors on film sets. According to Sanon, she is known for asking questions about her roles and scenes, but when a woman does so, she is often labeled as “difficult” or someone who asks “too many questions.” In contrast, she said, male actors who raise similar concerns are taken more seriously and generally receive better treatment and greater privileges on set.
