Report on Kahna Tuition Centre Roof Collapse Sent to Punjab Chief Minister

LAHORE: The investigation report into the Kahna tuition centre roof collapse, which claimed the lives of 14 children, has been submitted to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

According to the report, the roof collapsed after an excessive amount of debris was placed on top of it. It stated that unloading soil onto a T.R. girder roof while children were inside the building was an extremely irresponsible act, and the weakened structure was unable to bear the additional weight.

The report also includes the opinions of structural experts regarding the cause of the incident.

It revealed that a female teacher and 20 children were inside the classroom beneath the roof at the time of the collapse. Although the teacher was conducting tuition classes for 34 students, only 20 were present when the accident occurred. Of those, 14 children lost their lives while six others sustained injuries.

According to the findings, the children died primarily due to severe head injuries. The report added that, so far, no negligence has been found on the part of any relevant government official.

Police have registered a case and taken five individuals, including the owner of the house and his brother, into custody.

The Punjab Chief Minister has begun reviewing the report in detail and stated that tuition centres across Lahore will also be required to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve safety standards.
