Karachi Sizzles as Heatwave Intensifies, Temperature May Reach 41°C Today

Karachi:The metropolis endured a scorching Thursday as temperatures soared to 38.5°C, with no immediate relief in sight. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast even more intense heat for Friday, predicting that the mercury could climb as high as 41°C, accompanied by strong gusty winds.
In its latest advisory, the PMD warned that sea breezes are expected to remain partially suspended over the next two days, which could further worsen the already oppressive conditions. On Thursday afternoon, the “feels-like” temperature peaked at a staggering 51°C, primarily due to high humidity levels recorded at 42%.
Hot and dry winds from the west are expected to sweep across the city, significantly raising the risk of heatwave conditions. The weather office also noted that May is historically one of the hottest months for Karachi, often ranking the city among the hottest urban areas in South Asia during this period.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the daytime, stay hydrated, and take all possible precautions against the heat. Public health officials have expressed concern over the potential rise in heat-related illnesses if current conditions persist.
With no significant drop in temperature expected in the coming days, residents are advised to remain vigilant and prioritize their health and safety.
