Achakzai Calls for Removal of Restrictions on Action Committee Members, Urges Dialogue in AJK

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai has called for the removal of all restrictions, including placement on the Fourth Schedule, imposed on members of the Action Committee in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Achakzai made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from Azad Jammu and Kashmir led by Advocate Nabeela Irshad, Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Party. Senior political leaders Asad Qaiser, Shahram Khan Tarakai, Atif Khan, and Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai were also present at the meeting.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, Achakzai said the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir had rendered immense sacrifices for the Kashmir cause as well as for democratic and national rights. He emphasized that the current situation should be addressed through patience, political wisdom, and mutual respect.

The opposition leader urged all political forces and government representatives to avoid provocative statements and stressed the need for immediate confidence-building measures to pave the way for meaningful dialogue.

Achakzai demanded the withdrawal of restrictions imposed on Action Committee members, including their inclusion in the Fourth Schedule, and called for the immediate lifting of travel and movement restrictions. He also appealed to the Action Committee to reconsider its long march announced for June 23.

Warning against any escalation, Achakzai urged all parties to refrain from actions that could lead to confrontation. He emphasized that, in view of the sanctity of Muharram, the use of force should be avoided by all sides.

He further called on the authorities to ensure the uninterrupted supply of food, medicines, petroleum products, and other essential commodities across Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
