National Economic Council Meeting Postponed Amid Budget Consultations

ISLAMABAD: The meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), scheduled for today under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, has been postponed, according to official sources.
The NEC includes the chief ministers of all four provinces and is responsible for approving the country’s annual development budget, which was expected to be presented for approval during the meeting.
Sources said the meeting was delayed due to unresolved issues between the federal government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Officials added that the session was not included in the Prime Minister’s official schedule for the day.
The meeting is now likely to be held on Tuesday, although no final confirmation has been issued.
The development comes ahead of the federal budget for the fiscal year 2026–27, which is expected to be presented on June 10.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the specific points of disagreement, but consultations between coalition partners are reportedly ongoing to finalize key budgetary decisions before the upcoming session.
