Government Decides to Enact Law for Establishment of Commercial Courts

Islamabad: The federal government has decided to introduce legislation for the establishment of commercial courts aimed at improving the resolution of business and commercial disputes in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a committee to prepare the legal framework and draft legislation for the proposed courts.

The eight-member committee will be headed by Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar. The panel has been tasked with preparing recommendations and a draft law for the creation of specialized commercial courts across the country.

Other members of the committee include Mansoor Usman Awan, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, and the Federal Secretary for Law, along with other relevant officials and stakeholders.

According to the official decision, the committee will submit its report and legislative proposals to the Prime Minister within 45 days.

The move is aimed at strengthening the legal and business environment by providing a specialized mechanism for the speedy disposal of commercial and investment-related cases, a step that officials believe could help improve investor confidence and support economic growth.
