PM Shehbaz Sharif Calls for Enhanced Pakistan-China Cooperation in Minerals and Mining Sector

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and China in the minerals and mining sectors, urging swift implementation of agreements and understandings reached during his recent visit to China.

The remarks were made during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s House with Jiang Zaidong, China’s Ambassador to Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister’s Adviser Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amina Baloch.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, recalling the productive and outcome-oriented discussions he held with the Chinese leadership during his recent visit to China.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening the Pakistan-China “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership,” the Prime Minister stressed the importance of taking immediate and effective measures to implement key decisions and understandings reached during the visit.

He particularly highlighted the need to expand cooperation under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, especially in agriculture, information technology, industrial development, Special Economic Zones (SEZs), and the minerals and mining sectors.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of timely implementation of the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed between Pakistani and Chinese companies during the Business-to-Business (B2B) Investment Conference held in Hangzhou during his visit. He said that effective execution of these agreements would help both countries realize the benefits of enhanced economic cooperation at the earliest opportunity.

Shehbaz Sharif praised Ambassador Jiang Zaidong for his efforts in making the visit successful and noted that relevant institutions and authorities in both countries must now work closely to translate the leadership’s decisions into practical outcomes.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed accelerating progress on the Karakoram Highway (KKH) realignment project, strengthening cooperation in security, counterterrorism, and defense, as well as matters related to economic and financial support for Pakistan. Regional developments and important international issues were also reviewed.

Ambassador Jiang thanked the Prime Minister and extended Eid-ul-Adha greetings. He also congratulated him on the successful visit to China from May 23 to 26, 2026, and reaffirmed China’s commitment to further strengthening its enduring friendship with Pakistan and expanding bilateral cooperation across all sectors.
