Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Approves Rs50,000 Fine for Dumping Animal Waste During Eid-ul-Adha

Maryam Nawaz has approved a fine of Rs50,000 for people found dumping animal waste and remains in streets and neighborhoods during Eid al-Adha.
The decision was made during a video-link meeting chaired by the Punjab chief minister to finalize a comprehensive cleanliness and sanitation plan for Eid-ul-Adha across the province.
During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to launch a public awareness campaign to discourage citizens from disposing of animal remains at prohibited locations. She also ordered special cleaning and monitoring arrangements for drains, canals, and other public areas in every city.
The chief minister further instructed officials to ensure sanitation in private housing societies, railway colonies, and cantonment areas, while also ordering special cleaning arrangements for 2,687 major commercial markets across Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz stated that all government departments must work as a unified team during the Eid cleanliness operation, adding that good performance would be rewarded while negligence and complaints would lead to disciplinary action.
Officials informed the meeting that vigilance squads had been established to monitor and prevent illegal dumping of animal waste. Citizens will also be provided with biodegradable shopping bags for proper disposal of sacrificial remains.
Authorities further announced that rose water spray arrangements would be made at Eid prayer gatherings and mosques. Around 176,000 sanitation workers and more than 8,000 temporary staff members will participate in the province-wide cleanliness drive.
According to the briefing, 3,800 primary collection centers and 3,100 dumping sites have been designated for animal waste disposal, while 7,000 dumping points will be established across the province.
Under the “Suthra Punjab” Eid operation, 4,500 special camps and over 40,000 additional vehicles will be deployed. Loader rickshaws, mini dumpers, tractor trolleys, and pickup vehicles will also be hired to support the campaign.
Citizens can register complaints or seek assistance through the “Suthra Punjab” helpline at 1139.
