Illegal Tribal Jirga in Sukkur Orders ‘Vani,’ Police Arrest Eight Suspects

A video of an illegal tribal jirga has surfaced in Sukkur, prompting police action against those involved.
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sukkur, the jirga allegedly ordered a girl to be given as “vani” to another family after accusations of a relationship involving a woman and a young man.
Police officials said the jirga also ordered the killing of the boy after his family refused to accept the decision.
Authorities have registered a case against 12 suspects on behalf of the state. So far, eight suspects have been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining four accused.
According to the FIR, the boy was also accused of threatening to kill the woman and forcibly making her disappear. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
