Pulses, Chickpeas and Beans May Reduce Risk of High Blood Pressure: Study

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily): A new study has revealed that a diet rich in lentils, chickpeas, beans, and soy products may significantly reduce the risk of high blood pressure.
According to experts, consuming around 170 grams of lentils, beans, and chickpeas daily, along with 60 to 80 grams of soy-based foods such as tofu and edamame, can be highly beneficial in lowering the risk of hypertension.
The findings, published in BMJ Nutrition, Prevention & Health, were compiled by researchers including scientists affiliated with King’s College London.
The research analyzed combined data from 12 different studies. According to the results, individuals who consumed the highest amounts of pulses and soy products had a 16 percent and 19 percent lower risk of high blood pressure, respectively, compared to those who consumed the least.
The overall analysis further showed that eating approximately 170 grams of lentils, chickpeas, or beans daily could reduce the risk of hypertension by nearly 30 percent. Similarly, consuming 60 to 80 grams of soy-based foods every day may lower the risk by 28 to 29 percent.
