Journalist Maqbool Jaffar Allegedly Detained in Quetta
Quetta: Senior journalist Maqbool Jaffar, known for his outspoken views and critical commentary on the situation in بلوچستان, was allegedly detained in Quetta late last night.
According to reports, unidentified individuals took the journalist into custody from Kabir Building located on Jinnah Road and moved him to an undisclosed location. Various sources are claiming that Maqbool Jaffar is currently being held by the NCCI; however, no official confirmation regarding his arrest has yet been issued by the authorities.
The sudden detention of the journalist has sparked concern among members of the local media community and civil society circles. Maqbool Jaffar is considered one of the few journalists in بلوچستان who openly speaks about provincial issues and government policies in a critical manner.
This is not the first such incident involving the journalist. During the holy month of Ramadan, he was also allegedly detained in a similar manner but was later released by authorities after a few hours in custody.
Media and rights circles have demanded that the authorities immediately clarify the reasons behind his detention and disclose any possible charges against him.
