Tense Atmosphere in Balochistan Assembly, Government Warned of Collapse if Madrassa Actions Continue: Zafar Agha

QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly witnessed a highly charged atmosphere as opposition lawmakers strongly protested over alleged actions against religious seminaries, warning the government of serious consequences if the situation continues.
During the session, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) lawmaker Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman attempted to speak on the madrassa issue but was reportedly not given permission by the Speaker. Despite this, he continued speaking, prompting the Speaker to remark that he was not allowing the House to proceed and that “he raises issues unnecessarily.”
Another JUI member, Ghulam Dastgir Badini, said that seminaries and mosques in his constituency had been sealed without prior notice or formal intimation, raising serious concerns over administrative procedures.
Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman further stated that if seminaries are being targeted while other issues remain unresolved, they would take to the streets and continue religious education in public spaces as a form of protest.
JUI member Syed Zafar Agha warned that if actions against religious seminaries were not stopped, “the government will be sent packing,” intensifying the political tension in the House.
He alleged that the sealing of seminaries and mosques was already underway, which triggered a strong reaction from opposition members. In protest, opposition lawmakers staged a walkout from the assembly.
However, after persuasion by government members, the opposition later returned to the House.
The incident once again highlighted growing friction between the government and opposition over the issue of religious seminaries and administrative actions in Balochistan.
