Ziarat Mangi Dam Inquiry Commission Hearing: IG Police Submits Report, 49 PSP Posts Vacant in Balochistan
QUETTA: The Inquiry Commission investigating the terrorist attack at Mangi Dam in Ziarat held an open-court hearing under the supervision of Justice Muhammad Amir Nawaz Rana, with Balochistan Inspector General of Police Muhammad Tahir and AIG Legal appearing before the commission.
The IG Balochistan submitted a detailed report regarding the Mangi Dam attack. The commission made the police report and relevant documents part of the official record.
The IG also briefed the commission on the approved relief package for the families of the martyrs. He said the heirs of the deceased police personnel were being provided salaries, financial compensation and other benefits.
He said one eligible member from each martyr’s family would also be provided a government job. Measures were being taken through the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund (BEEF) to support the education of orphaned dependent children.
The IG informed the commission that several measures were being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
During the hearing, it was revealed that approximately 49 posts for Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) officers are vacant in Balochistan. The IG said the federal government had been informed about the vacant PSP positions.
The inquiry commission expressed concern over the shortage of PSP officers in the province, observing that the police are one of the most important institutions responsible for protecting the lives and property of citizens.
The commission directed that Balochistan Police be provided with modern weapons, essential equipment and necessary facilities to enable it to effectively perform its duties.
Police assured the commission of full cooperation with the inquiry process. The commission also directed the formation of a police liaison team to assist it, comprising well-informed, experienced and reputable officers.
Complete copies of the police report were provided to lawyers representing the families of the martyrs. The lawyers announced that they would submit their response to the police report at or before the next hearing.
Families of the martyrs and witnesses from Ziarat, Loralai and Sanjavi appeared before the commission. The commission directed that the registration of all relevant heirs and witnesses be completed by September 3.
The Additional Attorney General will submit a brief report at the next hearing.
The next hearing of the Mangi Dam terrorist attack inquiry commission will be held on September 7 at 1:00 p.m.
