Trader Killed in Police Firing in Chaman, Protests Erupt; Judicial Commission Agreed

Chaman (Daily Qudrat): A trader identified as Abdul Bari alias “Pahalwan” was killed and another citizen injured in police firing incident in Chaman, triggering strong protests by the victim’s family and local residents.
According to police sources, the incident took place last night when Abdul Bari and another person were riding a motorcycle. Police said they were signaled to stop, but they did not comply. Authorities further claimed that in an alleged exchange of fire, Abdul Bari was killed while the second person sustained injuries.
However, the deceased’s family strongly rejected the police version, claiming that Abdul Bari was a peaceful trader and completely innocent. They termed the police statement as fabricated and staged a protest by placing the body outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Protesters also blocked the national highway in Chaman and parts of Qila Abdullah.
Late at night, negotiations were held between the district administration, tribal elders, and political representatives. The talks continued for several hours and ended on a consensus.
According to the agreement, the officials involved in the incident will be suspended and an FIR will be registered against them. It was also agreed that any FIR filed by the police side would be withdrawn. The deceased would be declared a “martyr,” and compensation would be provided to the family. Moreover, a judicial commission will be formed to conduct a transparent investigation into the incident.
Following the agreement, the family called off the protest, reopened the highway for traffic, and later took the body to their ancestral graveyard for burial.
