Karachi Records Hottest Day Since 2018 as Temperature Surpasses 44°C

Karachi: The port city experienced its hottest day since 2018 as temperatures soared above 44°C amid intense heat and dry weather conditions.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, while the temperature crossed 44°C, it did not break the previous record of 46°C recorded in May 2018. Historically, Karachi’s highest-ever temperature was recorded at 48°C in 1938.
Officials said the low humidity level of around 8 percent reduced the heat index to a “feels like” temperature of approximately 38°C, while northwesterly winds blew at a speed of 19 km/h.
The temperature had already climbed to 41°C by 11:00 AM, reflecting the intensity of the heat early in the day. The minimum temperature recorded was 29°C, with humidity levels later rising to 27 percent.
Meteorologists had earlier forecast a maximum temperature between 41°C and 43°C, but actual readings exceeded expectations. Sea breeze remained suspended during the afternoon, contributing to the heat, with chances of restoration in the evening.
The Met Office has predicted a slight drop in temperatures over the next two days, with maximum temperatures expected to range between 37–39°C on Tuesday and 36–38°C on Wednesday.
It is noteworthy that Karachi also experienced heatwave-like conditions a day earlier, with temperatures reaching 40.9°C and humidity at 52 percent. The heat index during peak hours made it feel 4 to 5 degrees hotter, around 45°C, due to hot northerly winds and disruption of sea breeze.
