I Work Like Maryam Nawaz, Says Actress Meera Amid Podcast Controversy

LAHORE: Actress Meera has responded after journalist and analyst Arshad Bhatti apologized over allegedly inappropriate questions during a podcast session.

Speaking in an interview with BBC, Meera avoided directly commenting on the controversy, saying she had no knowledge of the details and did not wish to go into them. She added that the matter would require a long explanation, comparing it to a train journey between Lahore and Rawalpindi, making it difficult to explain over the phone.

The actress said she is a working woman struggling in her career and that her journey is visible to everyone. She emphasized that she is not playing the “woman card” but acknowledged her identity as a woman. Meera also said she has accepted Arshad Bhatti’s apology, adding that she left the podcast of her own will and parted ways respectfully.

She clarified that no inappropriate behavior occurred on her part during the podcast, and stated that she had requested to continue the discussion after promoting her film.

Meera further said she is currently focused on promoting her upcoming film Psycho, of which she is also the producer, and urged people to support her work.

Describing herself as a businesswoman and actress, she said her profession deserves respect. Comparing her career to international stars, she mentioned Angelina Jolie, Madhuri Dixit, and Alia Bhatt, calling herself the “queen of Lollywood.”

She also said that, like Maryam Nawaz, who is a working woman, she too works in the film industry and has been doing so for many years.
