White House Removes Taylor Swift Songs From Trump Videos
WASHINGTON: Songs by global pop star Taylor Swift have reportedly been removed from some videos shared by US President Donald Trump’s campaign and White House social media accounts, raising questions over the use of her music in political content.
Swift’s music has previously featured in several videos associated with Trump’s campaign and the White House. However, following the latest development, it remains unclear why the songs were removed or whether Swift or her representatives objected to their use.
According to Reuters, neither the White House nor representatives for Taylor Swift immediately issued an official explanation regarding the matter.
Long-Standing Political Differences
Taylor Swift and Donald Trump have had political differences for several years. During the 2024 US presidential election, Swift endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who was Trump’s opponent. She had also criticized Trump’s policies on social media during the 2020 election campaign.
Following Swift’s endorsement of Harris, Trump responded harshly to the singer on social media and later made critical remarks about her popularity and appearance.
The dispute over the use of artists’ music in Trump-related content is not limited to Swift. Other prominent artists, including Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have also expressed opposition to their music being used by the administration.
Swift’s Songs Previously Used in Trump Videos
In recent days, Trump’s campaign TikTok account shared a video referencing two of Swift’s songs. The video altered references to the songs and lyrics in a political context to mock Trump’s opponents and promote his policies. It addressed issues including the US border and the administrations of former President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Earlier in June, Trump’s campaign also released a short video featuring one of Swift’s newer songs. The footage showed Trump meeting children at the White House, dancing during a UFC event and addressing a political rally.
In April, another video shared by the White House showed members of the Artemis II mission meeting President Trump, with Swift’s song High Infidelity used in the background.
Similarly, a video posted on a White House TikTok account last November featured Swift’s song The Fate of Ophelia from her album The Life of a Showgirl. The video included images of the US flag, national landmarks and Trump, including a photograph taken following his arrest in 2023.
The Trump administration’s communications team has increasingly used popular music alongside footage of political and government activities on social media. The videos have covered issues ranging from Trump’s immigration policies and US military operations against Iran to the reported arrest of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
The removal of Swift’s songs from some Trump campaign and White House videos has once again sparked debate over the use of popular artists’ music in political campaigns. However, the exact reason for the removals remains unclear until Swift or the White House provides an official explanation.
