Balochistan CM Vows 100% Use of Development Budget, Dismisses Political Change Rumors

Quetta: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti has pledged that the province will utilize 100 percent of its development budget in the current fiscal year, while dismissing rumors of any political change with confidence.
Speaking to the media in Quetta after inaugurating a blacktop road project, Bugti made key remarks on development initiatives, security challenges, budget utilization, and recent political speculation.
Addressing concerns over security, the chief minister said that a road previously closed due to threats following an attack on the Inspector General’s residence—where family members were injured—has now been partially reopened for public use. He added that two-way traffic will soon be restored, and construction of the remaining section will be completed within 70 days. The Communications and Works Department had already completed the first phase within the same timeframe, at an estimated cost of around Rs300 million.
On rising street crime and target killings in Quetta, Bugti acknowledged that the province is currently a “conflict zone,” citing threats from hostile elements and external proxies. However, he assured that the government is committed to protecting citizens and that a new security strategy will soon lead to visible improvements in law and order.
Responding to concerns about lapsing development funds, Bugti firmly stated that the entire Rs249 billion development budget for the current fiscal year will be spent on public welfare. “Not a single rupee of the people’s money will go unutilized,” he said, emphasizing transparency and accountability.
Commenting on a recent meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and members of the provincial assembly—held in his absence—Bugti revealed that the president had informed him in advance. He added that Zardari, as head of state and party leader, is accessible to all members, and had also communicated important directives to him after the meeting, which will be fully implemented.
Dismissing speculation about a possible change in government, Bugti challenged his opponents, saying, “Anyone who wants to bring change is free to try and fulfill their desire.”
