Law and Order Situation Deteriorates in Quetta, Criminals Roam Free Due to Reduced Police Patrols: PkMAP

Quetta: The Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party (PkMAP) has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Quetta’s Ghurbarg area and surrounding localities, stating that rising incidents of crime, theft, and armed robberies have pushed citizens into an atmosphere of fear, uncertainty, and insecurity.
In a statement, the party said that the performance of relevant institutions in ensuring the protection of life and property has become unsatisfactory and questionable, leading to a serious erosion of public trust in state institutions.
The party noted that following a recent terrorist incident in Ghurbarg, expectations were high that security measures would be strengthened, police patrolling would increase, and effective action would be taken against criminal elements. However, contrary to expectations, police checkpoints and patrolling have significantly decreased, allowing criminals to operate freely.
As a result, incidents of theft, robbery, and other crimes have increased in the area, with reports of inverter batteries and other valuables being stolen from homes becoming routine.
The statement highlighted a recent incident in which Shah Wali Khan Bazai, a resident of Ghurbarg village Ghbizai, was robbed by armed men near Kalai Abdulzai checkpoint. Upon resistance, he was shot and seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.
Similar incidents of theft have also been reported in Kalai Zafar Bazai Randuzai and other areas, reflecting the weak performance of law enforcement agencies.
The party further stated that shortage of staff, inadequate manpower, limited resources, and ineffective monitoring in various police stations have become a serious issue, preventing timely assistance to citizens. Weak police presence and poor strategy have emboldened criminal elements, causing widespread public distress.
PkMAP warned that if immediate and effective measures are not taken, the surge in crime could take a more dangerous turn, threatening public safety and further damaging social peace and trust.
The party urged the government, the Interior Department, and senior police authorities to immediately improve the security system in Quetta, particularly in Ghurbarg and surrounding areas, increase police patrolling, ensure full staffing and accountability in all police stations, and take strict, indiscriminate action against criminal elements to restore peace and ensure protection of citizens’ lives and property.
