Quetta Roads Blocked Due to Security Measures, Citizens Face Severe Traffic Jams: PKNAP

Quetta: The Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party has expressed serious concern over the worsening traffic situation in Quetta, saying that key roads have been blocked due to security barriers and government installations, causing major hardships for citizens.

In a detailed press release issued from the party’s provincial secretariat, PKNAP stated that Quetta is a densely populated and rapidly expanding city, yet residents are increasingly facing difficulties instead of basic civic facilities.

The party pointed out that major roads such as TV Station Road, Model Town, Pashtunkhwa Chowk, Dera Farm Road, and areas within the Red Zone have either been fully or partially closed due to security installations, checkpoints, and heavy deployment of personnel. As a result, traffic congestion has become a routine issue, with citizens spending hours stuck in jams.

According to the statement, the unplanned and imbalanced security arrangements have severely disrupted daily life. Students are facing difficulties reaching educational institutions, patients are struggling to access hospitals on time, employees are unable to reach offices, and traders are affected in carrying out business activities.

The party also warned that obstruction in traffic flow is creating a critical situation for emergency services such as ambulances and fire brigades, which could pose a serious threat to human lives in urgent cases.

PKNAP termed the situation a serious violation of public rights and demanded that the government and security institutions immediately relocate their offices and checkpoints from populated residential areas to designated cantonment or secure zones in phases.

The party said this step would not only allow security forces to perform their duties more effectively in a secure environment but also significantly reduce public inconvenience and help restore the city’s traffic system.

It further stressed that providing relief to citizens is the government’s primary responsibility and urged immediate and effective action to resolve the issue. The party warned that if the situation persists, it reserves the right to launch a strong protest movement in consultation with the public, holding the government and relevant authorities fully responsible for any consequences.
