BMC ICU Recruitment Advertisement Declared Illegal, Says PMA Quetta Zone

Quetta (Daily Qudrat Quetta): The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Quetta Zone has strongly condemned the recent recruitment advertisement for ICU staff at Bolan Medical College (BMC), terming it illegal and a violation of the newly enacted Semi-Autonomous Act 2025.

A spokesperson for the PMA Quetta Zone said that under Section 8(2) of the Act, any Medical Superintendent or Executive Director appointed at the time of enforcement can serve for a maximum of six months or until a new appointment is made, whichever comes earlier. Since this period has already expired, the current Medical Superintendent’s authority is no longer valid, making all administrative actions—including the recent recruitment advertisement—illegal and unconstitutional.

The spokesperson further criticized the provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar, stating that despite repeated claims of legislative reforms, implementation of the newly introduced laws remains absent. He said that failure by the Health Department and the Secretary Health to enforce the Act has weakened institutional transparency and governance.

The PMA accused the recruitment process of violating merit principles and promoting nepotism and misuse of authority. It warned that similar practices in the past at institutions such as trauma centers and Balochistan Institute of Cardiology and Vascular Diseases (BICVD) had already led to negative consequences.

The association demanded the immediate withdrawal of the advertisement and called for strict action against those responsible. It warned that if the matter is not addressed promptly, the medical community may be forced to launch strong protests, for which the authorities would bear full responsibility.

The PMA reiterated its commitment to pursuing legal, constitutional, and democratic means to challenge what it described as unlawful administrative actions.
