Australia Welcomes Middle East Ceasefire, PM Shehbaz Thanks Albanese for Support

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has thanked Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for supporting peace efforts in the Middle East, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to promoting lasting stability in the region.

Earlier, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong welcomed the two-week ceasefire between the United States, Israel, and Iran.

In an official statement, Australia said it has long called for de-escalation and a peaceful resolution to the conflict, adding that the ceasefire marks an important step toward resolving tensions through dialogue.

The statement noted that Iran’s actions, including the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on energy infrastructure, had disrupted global markets and driven up oil and gas prices.

Australia also acknowledged the diplomatic efforts of Pakistan, Egypt, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia in reducing tensions, expressing hope that the ceasefire would hold and lead to lasting peace in the region.
